Plenary Speech II: Security Challenges of Software Defined Networks

 

Abstract:

 

Software Defined Networks (SDN) has changed the networking industry dramatically. SDN separates the control functions from the underlying physical network by decoupling the control and data planes. SDN provides many benefits such as reduced costs, ease of deployment and management, better scalability, availability, flexibility and fine-grain control of traffic and security. Like traditional networks, they are subject to various security threats and attacks such as Denial of Service, unauthorized access, data modification, eavesdropping and man in the middle attack. This talk will discuss a number of security challenges of software defined networks and potential solutions.

Speaker’s Biography:

Shao Ying Zhu is the programme leader for MSc Advanced Computer Networks at the University of Derby, UK. She has published many conference and journal papers on image processing, cloud security and SDN security. Her current research interests are in cloud security and SDN security.  She has served on the TPC for many conferences, as editor of a number of cloud computing books and as reviewer for several international journals.
