 Prof. Zhenglin Li, Sun Yat-sen University
Personal profile: Professor Zhenglin Li got his Ph. D degree from the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2002. From 2002 to 2022, he worked for IOA CAS as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor, and worked as vice leader of the State Key Laboratory of Acoustics. From 2022, he was with Sun Yat-sen University. Now, he is the Dean of School of Ocean Engineering and Technology, the Director of Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Information Technology for Deep Water Acoustics. Moreover, he is the vice director of underwater acoustic branch of the Acoustical Society of China and the secretary general of the Western Pacific Acoustic Committee. He has been engaged in the research of ocean acoustics. He has done some works on sound field model, geo-acoustics inversion, source localization and SONAR signal processing.
Presentation title: The progress of ocean acoustics and application in deep water
Abstract: Ocean environments, fluctuation of surface and water volume and bathymetry, have large effects on sound propagation and sonar application. In the past ten years, with the development of maritime strategy, researches on ocean acoustics in China are moving from shallow water to deep water. Some progresses on deep water acoustics have been made based on the founding from the Global Change and Air-sea Interaction Project. The research achievements on deep water acoustics are reviewed from the aspects of acoustic experimental equipment and sound fields in deep water. The sound field fluctuation caused by internal waves, mesoscale eddy, surface waves and bottom roughness are mainly introduced. In the end, some applications of sound field characteristics on source localization in deep water are introduced.
