Presentation title: Underwater acoustic communication: yesterday, today, tomorrow

Abstract: Underwater acoustic communication has a history of more than 80 years, and has undergone a number of developments, from analog to digital modulation, from frequency shift keying to phase shift keying modulation, from single-carrier to multi-carrier transmission, and from point-to-point communication to network communication. Moreover, it is affected by time-varying, space-varying and frequency-varying underwater acoustic channels, so communication performance are achieved with different communication scheme and channel. Generally for effectiveness, OFDM and PSK are used to realize high-speed underwater communication; For reliability, DSSS and FH-FSK are employed to realize robust underwater communication; For concealment, bionic camouflage communication technology are proposed to realize covert underwater communication. This report presents the typical application scenarios of these technologies, including high-speed underwater acoustic communication system for “Wukong”AUV, HEU full-duplex underwater acoustic communication modems, HEU ultra-deep acoustic release, etc. Furthermore, the report summarizes the international standards of underwater acoustic communication technology, the development of underwater acoustic communication modems and acoustic releases. Finally, the development trend of underwater acoustic communication and networking technology is discussed.
